Mollywood’s superstar Mammootty is celebrating his 70th birthday today, and his friends, colleagues and fans have a million memorable stories to share about him. Pattanam Rasheed, a veteran makeup artist who has worked with Mammootty for many movies like Ponthan Mada, Kutty Srank and Pathemari, spoke about his experience with the actor, in a recent chat with Manorama news.
Mammotty seems to have made a turning point in Rasheed’s life, as the popular '90s movie Ponthan Mada gave him his biggest break. The film helmed by T V Chandran required an aged look for Mammootty, and Rasheed still remembers how he could create a unique look as he could see the actor’s dedication towards the movie. The film had Mammootty undergo a complete transformation with fake teeth, a darker complexion, wearing dilapidated clothes.
He further said that the actor treated him like a brother and made the job even more comfortable. The actor also would go abroad and bring new makeup kits and ask for suggestions for makeups and transformations, said Rasheed.
Rasheed believes Mammootty is an artist, who has a quench for cinema, and that he would do whatever it takes for an artist to portray the character. He also added that the actor would not eat excessively or less, to maintain fitness.
Pattanam Rasheed is a winner of the 55th National Film Award for Best Makeup Artist. He has also won State Awards for movies like Guru, Kunjikkoonan, Anandabhadram and Yugapurushan. He is the one who is behind Arvind Swami’s recently popular look from the movie Thalaivii, in which the actor is transformed to the Tamil superstar MGR from the '60s.
