Mollywood’s biggest hit of 2021 – Bheeshma Parvam – is currently streaming online. The Amal Neerad directorial, which had the ace director team up with Mammootty 15 years after Big B, has already become the highest grossing film of the megastar with a worldwide box office revenue exceeding Rs 90 crore.

The gangster thriller, which has references of The Godfather and Mahabharat, is scripted by Amal and Devadath Shaji. It revolves around Michael, a godfather of sorts, who vows to protect his family and community, but his ways don’t go down well with some members of the younger generation, who seek outside help to eliminate him. How this impacts the family forms the plot of Bheeshma Parvam.

The multi-starrer also has Soubin Shahir, Anagha, Veena Nandakumar, Maala Parvathi, Sreenath Bhasi, Harish Uthaman, Shine Tom Chacko, Farhaan Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, Nadiya Moidu, Sudev Nair, KPAC Lalitha and Nedumudi Venu as part of its cast.

The film’s digital rights were sold to Disney+ Hotstar before its theatrical release. Bheeshma Parvam dropped on the streaming platform on April 1 and is now available to stream. The movie, which released in theatres on March 3, has already gone to become the highest grossing Malayalam film this year.

Incidentally, Amal and Mammootty were set to begin filming the sequel of Big B titled Bilal ahead of the pandemic. The team had to drop the plans as it was a big project involving large crowds and foreign locations. During the pandemic, Amal said he had pitched Mammootty three scripts and he liked the one of Bheeshma Parvam the best.

The movie has won praise from all quarters, including from Maheshinte Prathikaram and Joji director Dileesh, who plays a politician in the movie. “To come up with a project like this in our industry during the prevalent circumstances, and shape up the characters, their looks and the film’s overall style – these are the areas where his clarity and execution stands out and contributes to the overall quality of the movie,” he said.
