Mammootty on his film with Vysakh: ‘It has no connection with Kottayam Kunjachan’

Mammootty is on a roll! The Malayalam superstar - who has acted and produced new-age films like Rorschach, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Bheeshma Parvam - is continuing his dream run with his latest release, Kannur Squad. Thanks to an overwhelming response by the audience, the movie is likely to make new box-office records. Speaking about his upcoming projects in a recent interview, the actor said that he is collaborating with Vysakh (the director of Pulimurugan) on a new movie, scripted by Midhun Manuel Thomas. He also cleared the air on the film’s rumoured title, Adi Pidi Jose.

“Adi Pidi Jose is not the title of the film, and neither it has any connection with the character I played in Kottayam Kunjachan,” Mammootty told Asianet News. Earlier, there were rumours about Mammootty teaming up with Vysakh for a mass comedy entertainer that features Nayanthara as the female lead. It was expected that Mammootty would play a character similar to that in Kottayam Kunjachan, as Midhun had planned a sequel to the aforementioned film. It was also said that Midhun would rework the script of the Kottayam Kunjachan sequel for the Vysakh movie.

Meanwhile, stunt choreographers Anbariv - who were part of successful projects K.G.F., Vikram and more recently RDX: Robert Dony Xavier - are also expected to be part of the Vysakh-Mammootty film.

Mammootty’s Kannur Squad

Kannur Squad is an investigative thriller that revolves around the efforts of a wing of the Kerala police force in their journey to capture a few criminals. The film is inspired by actual events. According to the makers, the fictional elements in the story constitute only about 20% of the movie. Mammootty plays assistant sub inspector George, who spearheads the operation. Helmed by debutant director Roby Varghese Raj, Kannur Squad also features Vijayaraghavan, Azeez Nedumangad, Rony David Raj and Shabareesh Varma in key roles.
