Mammootty, Jyotika’s Kaathal wraps up shoot, megastar heads to Australia for vacation

Director Jeo Baby’s Kaathal – The Core has completed its shoot in a record time for a Mammootty-starrer. The movie, which was announced last month, had gone on floors in mid October and completed its principal photography within 34 days.

Starring Mammootty and Jyotika in the lead, the film is touted to be a family drama that has the megastar essaying the role of a man who decides to contest the local panchayat elections as an independent candidate. The film’s script is written by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria.

This is the quickest that a Mammootty-movie has been shot in the past decade. The film, which is produced by Mammootty Kampany and distributed by Wayfarer Films, is touted to be a theatrical release next year. The movie also marked the comeback of Jyotika after almost 12 years to Malayalam. Jyotika’s husband and superstar Suriya had also visited the sets of the movie in Kochi earlier this month.

Mammootty had wrapped up his portions last week while Jyotika completed her work a few days ago. The film, which marks Mammootty’s Kampany’s third production venture after Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Rorschach, also has Lalu Alex, Muthumani, Chinnu Chandini and Sudhi Kozhikode in pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, Mammootty headed to Dubai with his family this weekend, and will leave for Australia for a short vacation. The actor is next set to join cinematographer Roby Varghese’s debut directorial, which has him as a cop. The megastar also has Deeno Davis’ ‘mass’ thriller coming up next year.

His next release will be Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which is expected to hit theatres in December. The actor has also completed the shoot of B Unnikrishnan’s Christopher, which has him as a vigilante cop. The movie, scripted by Udaykrishna, has him teaming up with Amala Paul, Sneha and Aishwarya Lekshmi. Tamil actor Vinay Rai will be making his Malayalam debut with the movie, which will be a January 2023 release.
