Mammootty has been able to rule over Malayalam cinema for nearly four decades due to a host of reasons including his phenomenal acting, commanding screen presence and powerful dialogue delivery. But dancing is not exactly his forte. Despite that we get to see Mammootty making some dance moves in Dominic and the Ladies' Purse. Mammootty talks about saying yes to the dance sequences in Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, while director Gautham Vasudev Menon reveals that it was a fan-boy moment for him.
During a recent press meet, Mammootty spoke about the dance sequences in Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, admitting that he is reluctant to dance.
“I have not learned dance nor have I gone to Kalamandalam. Generally, I am reluctant to dance but sir encouraged,” Mammootty said, adding that since he had already committed to it, he decided to go along with it.
“Almost three times what you see on the screen was there. I got it reduced,” remarked the megastar. He further said that he takes full responsibility for however bad it has turned out to be.
Gautham Vasudev Menon, who was sitting right next to his Bazooka co-star, quickly took up the mike and remarked that “it was a fan-boy moment”.
"Plus, there is a dialogue in the movie that sir says as Dominic 'dance is a weakness for me',” the hit filmmaker said, adding that he, therefore, insisted it has to be there.
Mammootty is seen with Gokul Suresh and other young actors on the dance floor in the song ‘Ee Rathri’. The song, a peppy number, is sung by Vijay Yesudas, ThirumaLi, Sathyaprakash, and Pavithra Chari.
Dominic and the Ladies' Purse opened in theatres on January 23, 2025, to mixed reviews but has taken a decent start at the box office. The film revolves around Dominic, a detective, as he sets out to find the owner of a ladies’ purse but comes across bigger revelations.
Gokul Suresh appears as Vicky, while Viji Venkatesh of Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum fame, Lena, Siddique, and Vijay Babu are also playing key roles.
