‘Watch D.Nakshatram’ - that’s one of the observations of CI Dominic, Mammootty’s character from superhit director Gautham Vasudev Menon’s debut Malayalam film Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse. The megastar shared the poster as part of a series of diary entries – the format in which the team has been introducing its cast and their characters from the movie, which is set to hit theatres on January 23.
Prior to the titular character’s introduction, the team had shared posters of roles played by Gokul Suresh, Shine Tom Chacko, Sushmita Bhat, Meenakshi Unnikrishnan, Vijay Babu, Wafa Khatheeja and Viji Venkatesh. But Dominic seems to be the most interesting of the lot.
The character poster gives the audience a peek into the personality of Dominic, whom he describes as “Kaloor’s answer to Sherlock Holmes”. Smart and intelligent are the other adjectives apart from “smart worker” that Dominic uses to highlight his strengths.
The trailer of the film also hinted that CI Dominic could be suspended and this is probably why he is starting his own detective firm. And the next cases in his list are those of a certain “S. Kurup” and “D. Ibrahim” – maybe aimed at Sukumara Kurup and Dawood Ibrahim.
Incidentally, in a recent interview with OTTplay, director Gautham had said that he had a few ideas in mind for future instalments of Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse and who knows, maybe Dominic could be taking on other high-profile cases if the film does well at the box office.
The poster also hints at Gautham Menon’s upcoming film Dhruva Natchathiram, which has been long delayed. The director had told us that he is planning to release the movie in 2025, and the character poster confirms this with Dominic making a note to “Watch D. Nakshatram” - alluding to Dhruva Natchathiram.

Meanwhile, Gautham said Dominic, as a character, is a loser but he’s also street-smart, intelligent and a dog-lover. “He is a no-holds-barred guy who doesn’t give a damn what people think but there’s only a little bit of emotional angle to him,” he said.
