One of the most-anticipated Malayalam movies, Malaikottai Vaaliban, wrapped up its shoot on Tuesday and its makers took to their social media pages to celebrate the occasion. The Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial, which is rumoured to be a period action-drama, has Mohanlal essaying the role of a wrestler.

Filming began in Rajasthan in January, and lasted for 130 days with Chennai and Pondicherry being the recent locations of the big budget movie, which also has Danish Sait, Sonalee Kulkarni, Hareesh Peradi and Katha Nandi in pivotal roles.

Hareesh Peradi took to his social media page on Tuesday to share his experience of working with Mohanlal in the movie. “For the past six months, I had been travelling with this master in a topography and time that I wasn’t familiar with,” he wrote, adding that there was mutual respect between him and Mohanlal and it was a special feeling to not be able to separate the characters, actors and the people they are, while working in the movie.

Meanwhile, on the final day of the shoot, Lijo addressed the cast and crew of the film, saying that everyone is impressed with how the movie has turned out and he’s hoping that it will be a project that everyone would be proud about, and hoped the audience too will enjoy.

Lijo, who had helmed Mammootty’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam that is currently streaming on Netflix, directed Mohanlal for the first time in his career with Malaikottai Vaaliban. The film is also the biggest project in his career.

Earlier, there were rumours that the film was based on the wrestler, Ghulam Mohammad Baksh aka The Great Gama. But its producer Shibu Baby John denied it. The movie is currently set for either Christmas 2023 release or Vishu 2024 release, depending on when the team will conclude its post-production. The film is arguably one of the strongest contenders to break the Rs 200 Crore box office record set by Tovino Thomas and Asif Ali’s disaster drama 2018, which is currently streaming on Sony LIV and OTTplay Premium.
