Malaikottai Vaaliban Box Office final collection – Mohanlal's film crosses Rs. 29 crore mark with its lifetime run

Malaikottai Vaaliban, the period drama which features Mohanlal in the lead role, hit the big screens in January 2024. The movie marked the superstar’s first on-screen collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery. The movie, which was released with massive pre-release hype, however, failed to meet the expectations of Malayalam cinema audiences. When it completed its lifetime run at the theatres, Malaikottai Vaaliban was unable to cross even the Rs. 30 crore mark at the box office.

Malaikottai Vaaliban box office: Final collection report

According to the recent updates, the Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial, which was made with a mammoth budget of around Rs. 60 crore, has now ended up as one of the biggest commercial failures in the career of its leading man, Mohanlal. When it completed its lifetime run at the box office, the period drama made a total worldwide collection of Rs. 29.85 crore. The new update has come out as a big shock for the Malayalam cine-goers, who had high expectations of the project.

The trade experts suggest that Malaikottai Vaaliban even failed to cross the Rs. 15 crore mark at the box office. The Mohanlal starrer has made a total collection of Rs. 14.42 crore from the state, within its lifetime run. From the rest of India’s box office, the period drama made a total collection of Rs. 2.30 crore. The movie went on to collect Rs. 13.13 crore from the overseas box office.

What went wrong with Malaikottai Vaaliban?

Well, it is now safe to assume that the misfired marketing campaign that created the false image of a commercial entertainer and the excessive expectations of audiences played major roles in the massive failure of Malaikottai Vaaliaban. However, the Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial has already impressed OTT audiences within a few hours of its release on the renowned streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar. Meanwhile, the Mohanlal fans and cine-goers who loved the film, are now eagerly waiting for Malaikottai Vaaliban 2, which is set to be made on a larger scale.
