Malaikottai Vaaliban, the Mohanlal starrer which hit the big screens on January 25, 2024, has opened to polarizing views. The Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial has impressed the cinema lovers with its making, performances, and technical aspects. The common audience, however, is not impressed with the Malayalam superstar and acclaimed filmmaker’s latest outing. Even the Mohanlal fans admit that Malaikottai Vaaliban failed to match their expectations.
Meanwhile, director Anurag Kashyap, who dubbed for Mohanlal in the Hindi version of the magnum opus, heaped praise on the film recently. The renowned filmmaker, who is highly impressed with Lijo Jose Pellissery’s latest outing, also reacted to the criticisms received by Malaikottai Vaaliban, in an interaction with the media.
The celebrated director, who attended the trailer launch event of the upcoming project Family in Kochi, extensively spoke about the Mohanlal starrer during his interaction with the media. Anurag Kashyap revealed that he is highly impressed with Lijo Jose Pellissery’s latest outing. The Gangs Of Wasseypur director also stated that Malaikottai Vaaliban is one of the recent films that he loved. He further added that the period fantasy drama is a very new approach, and it is somebody trying to do something new.
The Bollywood director, who revealed that he is aware of how a section of audiences put the film down, stated that it is the result of unnecessary expectations. According to Anurag Kashyap, it is the fault of audiences if a film fails to satisfy them, as they expected too much or something entirely different. “You already have decided what film you want to watch. You are not really watching the film that is on screen. That is the biggest problem,” said the director.
“I’m going to see Malaikottai Vaaliban. I’m not going to see Angamaly Diaries or Ee May Yau. I’m going to see what Lijo this time has done; I want to see how Mohanlal has pulled off the action scenes,” further added Anurag Kashyap. The filmmaker feels that if the audience are disappointed with what Mohanlal and Lijo Jose Pellissery created, the problem is their expectations, not the actor-director duo.
