Malaikottai Vaaliban, one of the most anticipated Malayalam films of 2024, is gearing up for its grand theatrical release on January 25, 2024. The highly anticipated project marks the first on-screen collaboration between superstar Mohanlal and celebrated filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery. The period fantasy film, which was originally announced in 2022, was under production for over a year. Expectations are riding high on the magnum opus, after the release of its promising trailer.

Even though nothing much has been revealed about Malaikottai Vaaliban's plot and its characters, it has been confirmed that Mohanlal is set to play the titular role in the film. From the promotional materials that have been revealed so far, it is evident that director Lijo Jose and his team have created a never-seen-before cinematic experience for Malayalam cinema audiences.

The highly anticipated project is gearing up for a massive theatrical release on January 25, 2024, Thursday. As reported earlier, Malaikottai Vaaliban is set to release in three languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi, across the globe. The Mohanlal starrer is set for a record release across the globe, with a humongous number of screens in both Kerala and overseas centers.

The promising trailer

From the Malaikottai Vaaliban trailer, which was released on January 18, 2024, it is evident that Mohanlal and Lijo Jose Pellissery are teaming up for a unique project. The larger-than-life presence of the superstar, stunning visuals, captivating music score, and comic book-esque narration hint that the period fantasy drama is going to be a marvelous visual treat, specially made for the big screens.

An intriguing plot

As per the reports, Malaikottai Vaaliban revolves around the titular character, an ‘uncontested’ warrior, who is best known for his unmatched strength and skills. Vaaliban’s life takes a different turn after he comes across a famous dancer named Rangapattinam Rangarani, and a negative force called Chamathakan. How the warrior tackles the challenges thrown upon him, forms the crux of the Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial.

Malaikottai Vaaliban’s OTT partner

If the reports are to be believed, the OTT rights of the highly anticipated project have been bagged by streaming giant Disney+ Hotstar, for a whopping price. Malaikottai Vaaliban is expected to have its OTT release in five languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, after completing its theatrical run. The OTT release date of the Mohanlal starrer is expected to be revealed in February 2024.

Malaikottai Vaaliban box office prediction

While considering the extraordinary booking rate, pre-sales collections, and the record number of theatres and fan shows, it is safe to assume that Malaikottai Vaaliban is set to have a massive opening at the box office. If the Mohanlal starrer receives positive reviews from the audiences, it has all the potential to emerge as one of the all-time highest-grossing films in the Malayalam industry.

The sequel plans

Even though the makers have not announced it officially, the grapevine strongly suggests that Malaikottai Vaaliban will get a sequel soon. Reportedly, the project has been planned as a two-part film, and more updates on the same will be revealed after January 25, 2024. When they were asked about the same, both Mohanlal and director Lijo Jose Pellissery refused to make any comments.

Malaikottai Vaaliban – Cast and Crew

Along with Mohanlal, Malaikottai Vaaliban features a stellar star cast including Sonalee Kulkarni, Andrea Ravera, Danish Sait, Hareesh Peradi, Manikandan R Achari, Katha Nandi, Rajeev Pillai, and others, in key roles. The period fantasy drama is jointly penned by Lijo Jose Pellissery and PS Rafeeque. Madhu Neelakandan is the director of photography, Prashant Pillai has composed the songs and the original score, and Deepu S Joseph has handled the editing.

Malaikottai Vaaliban runtime and censor certificate

As reported earlier, Malaikottai Vaaliban has completed the censor formalities and bagged a U/A certificate from the Censor Board of India. The Mohanlal starrer has earned a PG13 rating, after its UAE censorship. The highly anticipated project has a runtime of around 2 hours and 30 minutes in Malayalam and over 2 hours and 10 minutes in Hindi.
