Filmmaker Amit Sharma is gearing up for the release of his movie, Maidaan. It will clash with Ali Abbas Zafar's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan at the box office on Eid 2024. Amit's directorial venture features Ajay Devgn in the lead role while Priyamani will be seen essaying the character of his wife. However, actress Priyamani was not the first choice for the role in the Amit Sharma-directed movie. Keerthy Suresh was supposed to play the part, however, the actress was replaced by Priyamani. Now, the reason behind the same has been revealed.
Why was Keerthy Suresh replaced in Maidaan?
In an interview with News18, filmmaker Amit Sharma confirmed that Keerthy Suresh was the first choice to play the role of Ajay Devgn's wife in Maidaan. Revealing why she was replaced in the movie, the director said, "But Keerthy Suresh had lost a lot of weight. I wanted Syed Abdul Rahim’s (the late football coach Ajay plays in the film) wife to look a particular way."
Since the actress lost weight, Amit felt Keerthy wasn't the right fit for the character. That is when the director realised somebody else would be better suited for the part. For those who are unaware, Maidaan is based on the life of a former Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim.
When Priyamani spoke about her character in Maidaan
Earlier, in an interview with Mid-Day, Priyamani shared details about her character Saira in Maidaan. Spilling some beans about her role, the actress said that Saira is Syed's emotional support and pillar of strength. "She holds the fort when Rahim saab is not at home or busy with his meetings and matches," revealed Priyamani.
Maidaan's box office clash with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan
Meanwhile, Maidaan is headed for a box-office clash with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan on Eid 2024. The makers of BMCM recently shared that the film will hit the silver screen on April 10. Only time will tell which film out of the two will win the BO race.
