Maidaan Box Office Collection Day 2: The last two days have been about tracking the box office of two massive releases that clashed at the box office on Eid this year. Both Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan saw their release after what felt like a year of promotions, and the conversations around them and their content are still ongoing. While Bade Miyan Chote Miyan has been criticized by critics, Maidaan has received decent reviews that should work in favor of the film.
However, that is not the case, and the Ajay Devgn starrer has now fallen flat on day 2 of its release and is not even in the clash anymore. Not that the Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer is writing any history, but it is still way ahead of the biographical drama, which has now managed to earn just a little over its paid previews collection on day 2.
There is so much chaos at the box office at the moment as the Eid releases have made it to the big screen across the country. But the Hindi contenders have in a way shown a very lukewarm journey on just day 2, as one of the two has supremely underperformed. The Ajay Devgn starrer, which rang in Rs 7 crore on day one, including Rs 2.6 crore earned from the paid previews the evening before, has not gotten any better; rather, it dipped almost 50 percent from what it earned on the first day of its release.
According to numbers from Sacnilk, Maidaan has only earned Rs 2.72 crore net in the Indian market on day two, which is just a little over half of the Rs 4.50 crore it earned on the first day. The total collection of Maidaan now sits at Rs 9.82 crore in two days of release and a bonus preview evening. What is bothering about this number is the fact that it is inclusive of all the languages the movie has been released in.
Not that the Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer is doing something extraordinary over Maidaan. The movie, which was touted to open at something around Rs 20 crore, has made Rs 21.55 crore in India on day 2. On the second day of its release, the film managed to earn Rs 5.9 crore net at the domestic box office, which is two times less than what it managed to bring in on the first day.
However, today is Saturday, and there is some hope for both movies as they officially enter their first weekend. Word of mouth is important for both films that are set on massive budgets. Both Maidaan and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan will have a tough journey to break even if they do not find the momentum today and tomorrow.
