A middle-class mother, volunteer nurse, and wife see a catastrophe that changes her life forever. She is drawn into a rabbit hole of violence, criminality, and power in an instant. Sakshi Tanwar plays Mai (Sheel), a new avatar who is desperate to learn the truth behind her daughter Supriya's death. Mai is a multi-layered crime drama and thriller series directed by Anshai Lal and Karnesh Ssharma of Clean Slate Filmz.

The series also stars actors Vivek Mushran, Wamiqa Gabbi, Anant Vidhaat, Raima Sen, Ankur Ratan, Prashant Narayan, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, and Seema Pahwa. Atul Mongia, the creator, writer, and showrunner of Mai, makes his directing debut with the series. With the release of the trailer, Atul discusses how his real-life experiences influenced the creation and writing of Mai.

He said in a statement that his mother worked until she couldn't keep her eyes open since she was a child, waking up before the sun rose. Despite dabbling in a variety of side jobs, she has dedicated her entire life to her family, a trait shared by many Indian mothers. Mai, like Atul's mother, maintains her holiness by avoiding the world outside of her family, despite the ups and downs of life. But, what if her existence collided with a horrific and life-threatening situation?!

The Chaudhary family, which consists of two brothers who live in adjacent houses in the same colony with their wives and children, is at the centre of the series. Sheel, the lead, is the younger brother's bride. She lives and breathes for her immediate and extended family, ensuring that the entire household operates well. Sheel, on the other hand, is plunged deep into the realm of crime by a peculiar twist of fate and decision. The tale becomes highly dramatic yet immensely relatable because she stays the same humble, uncomplicated mother, at least at first, in the same way as the director's mother.

Mai's protagonist shares his mother's maiden name, so one will never forget who "Sheel Chaudhary" actually is. Atul went on to say that Mai pits the homely, compassionate, traditional Indian mother of popular Indian television and Hindi cinema against the true existence of the Machiavellian world out there, compelling both her and us to question our beliefs.

Mai will premiere exclusively on Netflix on April 15, 2022!
