Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu is upbeat about the kind of response his latest film Guntur Kaaram received following its OTT release . The superstar expressed his gratitude to his fans while acknowledging the power of simple storytelling to captivate mass audiences.
“It's incredibly gratifying to see the film resonate with audiences despite the challenges it faced. It reaffirms the power of simplistic narrations and the overwhelming support of my fans," he told India Today.
Guntur Kaaram marked his reunion with Trivikram Srinivas. The actor-director duo have previously collaborated on blockbusters like Athadu and Khaleja. While Athadu, which came out in 2005, was a smash hit at the box office and also played a key role in solidifying Mahesh's stardom in the Telugu film industry, the 2010 movie Khaleja didn't garner the expected reception at the box office.
Even though Khaleja failed to live up to the box office expectations, it has gained a significant reputation among movie fans over the years through repeated television broadcasts. Similarly, Guntur Kaaram failed to generate the expected commercial success upon its release in January, coinciding with the Sankranti festival.

Guntur Kaaram received a massive theatrical launch worldwide amid a huge pre-release hype. The film's opening day collection was pegged at over Rs 90 crore, setting a new box office benchmark in Mahesh's career. However, the films soon witnessed a massive drop in collection owing to poor reviews and unfavourable word-of-mouth. Following the opening weekend, the film lost its momentum at the box office and was overshadowed by director Prasanth Varma's superhero movie HanuMan.
Judging from Mahesh's reaction, Guntur Kaaram seems to have struck a chord with the streaming audiences. The film is a family drama revolving around an estranged relationship between a son and mother. The movie also stars Sreeleela, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Prakash Raj, Ramya Krishna, Jayaram, Jagapathi Babu and Sunil among others.
Guntur Kaaram is now streaming on Netflix.
In the meantime, Mahesh is now preparing to join the sets of director SS Rajamouli's next. The film's post-production work is going on and is said to be a "globetrotting adventure" like Indiana Jones.
