PremiumMahaveeryar: Teaser of Nivin Pauly, Asif Ali’s time-travel fantasy drama crosses 9 million views in record time
The movie, directed by Abrid Shine based on a story by M Mukundan, also has Shanvi Srivastava and Lal in pivotal roles

Malayalam star Nivin Pauly might have not had a theatrical release in some time, but that has hardly dimmed his popularity – the recent teaser of Abrid Shine’s Mahaveeryar is proof enough. The video, which was released two days ago, is on the brink of touching 10 million views in record time for a teaser of a Malayalam movie.
The first glimpse of the movie also showcased its genre. Nivin, who had shared the teaser through his social media page, wrote that the film is not about “the epic triumph of heroes”, also referred to it as a “satirical fantasy film interlaced with time travel, fun, emotions and court proceedings”.
During the launch of the film’s title and first look posters in February in Kochi, writer M Mukundan said that the movie was a blend of reality and fantasy, and addresses several relevant issues. Asif Ali, who is teaming up with Nivin after a huge gap, said that it’s the kind of film that neither of the actors had earlier attempted.
He also praised Abrid for making such a film that is novel in its storytelling. The teasers, which mostly is set in the past till a court scene, has Asif playing a warrior while Nivin is shown as an ascetic, with powers to transcend time. While the court scene refers to Apoornananthan, it’s not clear who plays the character.
Kannada actress Shanvi Srivastava will be making her debut with the film, which is expected to hit theatres in May. Lal, Lalu Alex, Siddique, Mallika Sukumaran and Vijay Menon are also part of the cast.
Meanwhile, Mahaveeryar’s teaser, which was released on Sunday, has already gone on to cross 9 million views, making it the highest viewed Malayalam teaser in recent times. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Gold and Mammootty’s Bheeshma Parvam teasers had got 7.7 million and 6.6 million views, respectively.
