Maharaja, the 50th film of Vijay Sethupathi which hit the theatres in June 2024, emerged as a major critical and commercial success. The action thriller directed by Nithilan Swaminathan which stars the National Award-winning actor in the titular role, earned immense love from audiences and critics with its exceptional making and performances. Maharaja is now gearing up to have its grand OTT release on the popular streaming platform Netflix, on Friday, July 12, 2024.
For the uninitiated, the Nithin Swaminathan directorial was released in theatres only in its original Tamil version. However, the Vijay Sethupathi starrer is set to get its OTT release in five languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. As per the recent updates, along with the Tamil version, the Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada versions of Maharaja will also stream on Netflix, from July 12, 2024. The movie, which stars Bollywood filmmaker-actor Anurag Kashyap in a pivotal role, is expected to stream on the OTT giant from Friday midnight.
The action thriller, which marked Vijay Sethupathi’s 50th outing in films, emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024, so far. Maharaja reportedly made a total collection of over Rs. 100 crore from the worldwide box office, when it completed the first 19 days of its release. The movie has reportedly collected over Rs. 76 crore from the all-India box office so far. The Tamil Nadu box office collection, on the other hand, reportedly stands at Rs. 54 crore.
Vijay Sethupathi played the titular character Maharaja in the Nithilan Swaminathan film, while Anurag Kashyap appeared as the lead antagonist Selvam. Sanchana Namidass, Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami, Bharathiraja, Divya Bharathi, Singampuli, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, and others play the supporting roles in the film. B Ajaneesh Loknath composed the music. Dinesh Purushothaman is the director of photography. Philomin Raj handled the editing. Maharaja is produced by Passion Studios, The Route, and Think Studios.
