Maharaja’s box office collection comes as a refreshing phase after Tamil cinema has been facing a dull time at the box office, thanks to films that could not mint more money. The film is backed by Passion Studios. After its theatrical run, Maharaja will stream on Netflix. However, an OTT release date has yet to be announced by the makers.

Apart from Vijay Sethupathi, the film also stars Bharathiraja, Abhirami, Mamta Mohandas, Singampuli, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Vinoth Sagar, Boys Manikandan, Kalki, and Sachana Namidass. Anurag Kashyap plays the primary antagonist in the film. It is to be noted that Maharaja is Vijay Sethupathi’s 50th outing as lead actor.

While the film got a positive reception upon its release, it also dealt with a fair share of backlash for its handling of sexual abuse. The film is bankrolled by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy. Maharaja is shot by Dinesh Purushothaman, with Ajaneesh Loknath scoring the music. Philomin Raj has worked on the edits.

Maharaja was released in theatres on June 14 and is expected to be released on Netflix in mid-July.
