Debutant director UR Jameel's long-delayed project Maha courted controversies last year owing to his tussle with the film's producer Mathiyalagan. Despite strong rumours about the movie skipping theatrical release, the makers managed to release it in movie halls a week ago, on July 22.

The war of words between the director and the producer raised doubts about the movie's output among film buffs. However, all eyes were on Silambarasan, who played a cameo in the project which has Hansika headlining it. Thambi Ramaiah, Srikanth and Karunakaran among others play pivotal roles in the movie.

What's Maha about?

The film, which was promoted as Hansika's 50th project ever since it was launched, revolves around a notorious gang who kidnaps little girls for reasons best known to them. The protagonist reaches out to cops after her daughter is found missing. Will they be able to nab the gang behind the crime?

Maha opened to negative response from critics and the audience alike. Jameel had taken to social media on the day the film released to inform everyone that what has been released is entirely different from what he intended to make, and that he is planning to come up with the director's version soon.
