The film marks the directorial debut of Henry Hobson, whose previous work includes designing cards for popular films such as Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Robin Hood (2010).

The gripping horror mystery is led by action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, alongside the likes of formidable actress Abigail Breslin. The other prominent characters are played by Joely Richardson, Douglas M. Griffin, J. D. Evermore, Rachel Whitman Groves, and Jodie Moore. Notably, the movie features Arnold in a dramatic role as a protective father. Hobson had previously shared why he chose him for the central role. "When Arnold came up, it was a really intriguing idea; he’s been the hero in everything he’s done, and to now use that against him and have him be a father who has failed to protect his family was a really intriguing idea—to use his strongest qualities as a kind of narrative aid."
Set in a post-apocalyptic setting, Maggie follows the dreary events of a zombie pandemic as society grapples to adjust to the new normal. It tells the poignant tale of a protective father who struggles to save his ‘infected’ daughter.
