Director Mahesh hints at a possible collaboration after Sriimurali finishes his current commitment on Bhageera

Ayogya director Mahesh Kumar’s second directorial, Madhagaja, was Roaring Star Sriimurali’s most anticipated film, given that it came after the lukewarm reception his previous film, Bharjari, got. This was also a film that Sriimurali took a personal interest in perfecting during the making, for which he enlisted the help of trusted pal, director Prashant Neel, whose Ugramm turned the actor’s career around for the better a few years ago.
Yet despite their best efforts, when Madhagaja opened in theatres, after the initial hype, it gathered mixed reviews, with many claiming that the story and narration had nothing novel and that it had a serious Ugramm hangover. In the film, Sriimurali played an ‘orphan’ who grows up in Varanasi, amid violence, and doesn’t hesitate to throw in a few punches himself.
When a business deal brings him to a remote hamlet in Karnataka, he realizes that he has a personal connect with the place and the people. Madhagaja paired Sriimurali with Ashika Ranganath, who played an educated girl with a keen interest in farming. The film also had Jagapati Babu, Devayani, Chikkanna, Garuda Ram and Anil, among others on its cast. The film was produced by Umapathy Srinivas.
The team of Madhagaja, though, appears to be happy with the outcome of the film, even hinting at a possible reunion. According to director Mahesh, he, Umapathy and Sriimurali caught up recently to discuss the possibility of yet another collaboration and that the actor sounded positive. Sriimurali is currently committed to his film Bhageera, which is being produced by Hombale Films, directed by Dr Suri and is based on a script by Prashant. Nothing much is known about Bhageera at this point, except that Sriimurali is expected to play a cop in it. The Madhagaja trip, we hear, will be back for a film that is likely to take off in 2023.
Madhagaja, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
