The controversy surrounding the web series, Made in Heaven, refuses to die down. In the latest update, writer Alankrita Shrivastava claimed she met author Yashica Dutt just after the controversial episode of the series was shot. For the uninitiated, Yashica levied heavy plagiarism charges on the makers of the web series.
Yashica Dutt said that Made in Heaven 2 co-writer Alankrita Shrivastava 'took the words out of my mouth and put them on screen' after she had a meeting with the author in 2022.
“Was it not ‘misleading’ when Alankrita Shrivastav, the writer and director of Made in Heaven, who also co-signed the condescending statement, requested a meeting with me in New York on July 15, 2022, that lasted for five hours?” Yashica said, as reported by The Indian Express.
Later, Alankrita shared on X (formerly Twitter) that they shot the controversial episode of the series in 2021 and later met with Yashica in 2022, implying that she did not use her life as an inspiration. “The Pallavi Menke story (in the controversial episode of the series) was shot in October 2021. I went to New York in July 2022,” she wrote.
What is the controversy all about?
The dispute was initiated several weeks back, sparked by Yashica Dutt, the author, who alleged that the Radhika Apte starrer episode featured in the second season of "Made in Heaven" drew significant inspiration from her own life and her literary work titled 'Coming Out as Dalit: A Memoir.'
Dutt went on to express her admiration for the portrayal of a Dalit woman while lamenting that her own contribution to the depiction had regrettably been overlooked. Following this, the show's creators issued a statement refuting these allegations a few days later.
