Known as Karnataka’s first trans-woman surgeon, Dr Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju is now making her acting debut in the Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti-directed web series Made In Heaven 2, which is set to release later this year on Amazon Prime Video.
Trinetra, who had to face a lot of difficulties early in her life due to her gender identity, opened up about how one day she went for an audition straight from the hospital just to try her luck, as she always wanted to try her hands at acting.
Sharing her story, Trinetra said in a statement, “I auditioned for Made In Heaven 2 at the start of my internship in the hospital. I remember it was in the middle of my gynaecology rotation, and I gave it a shot because I had nothing to lose.”
The doctor-turned-actor also mentioned that she had no contacts in the film industry, and had nobody to ask for advice. “I gave it a shot, because the child in me would’ve wanted to. When it worked out, I couldn’t believe it, and I still don’t think I can. I have a long way to go with acting,” said the 26-year-old.
Adding to that, Trinetra said, “As a child, I thought I was crazy for believing I was a girl and was reminded of it every day. Little did I know I’d also be a doctor, content creator, and actor one day.”
The first season of the show was released in 2019. Produced by Excel Entertainment, and directed by Zoya and Reema Kagti, the show stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Arjun Mathur, Kalki Koechlin, Shashank Arora, Shivani Raghuvanshi and Jim Sarbh, among others. The second season of the show will be released soon.
