MAD, the campus comedy, headlined by Sangeeth Shobhan, Narrne Nithin and Ram Nithin, turned out to be a surprise hit in Telugu cinema this year. Despite featuring little known faces, the film captured the imagination of the public. Kalyan Shankar wrote and directed the entertainer produced by Haarika Suryadevara and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas.
The film released in theatres on October 6 amidst stiff competition and emerged a surprise winner. Post its theatrical run, the film was out on OTT this November. Netflix acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of MAD and premiered it globally on November 3. Even two weeks after its OTT premiere, the film continues to wow viewers across multiple languages worldwide.
The youth-centric saga has consistently stayed in the top 5 and top 10 lists nearly every day since the last couple of weeks. The light-hearted theme, the smart packaging of pop-culture references, exuberant performances by the young cast have clicked with audiences on OTT as well. Bheems Ceciroleo, the Balagam composer, scored several hit tracks for MAD, contributing to its appeal.
Sri Gouri Priya Reddy, Ananathika Sanilkumar, Gopikaa Udyan, Raghu Babu, Racha Ravi, Muralidhar Goud, Vishnu, Anthony and Srikanth Reddy are also part of the lineup. S Naga Vamsi presented the film which was edited by Navin Nooli. Shamdat and Dinesh Krishnan B cranked the camera for the comedy whose screenplay is co-written by Praveen Pattu and Pranay Rao Takkallapalli.
For the uninitiated, Narrne Nithin is the brother of law of RRR star Jr NTR. Sangeeth Shobhan is already a popular face in the digital space, thanks to his OTT outings like Oka Chinna Family Story, Prema Vimanam, Pitta Kathalu and The Baker and The Beauty. Ram Nitin impressed many with his performance in ZEE5’s corporate drama Hello World.
