Finally, the much-awaited trailer of Karthick Naren's Maaran is out. Dhanush plays the titular role in the film which has Malavika Mohanan playing the female lead. Both the lead actors are playing journalists in the movie which has been produced by Arjun Thyagarajan and Sendhil Thyagarajan under Sathya Jyothi Films. Dhanush's character also suffers from a drinking problem which affects his family after a point.

It is known that the film will have a direct-to-OTT release on Disney+ Hotstar. Along with the two-minute trailer, the makers have also announced its release date. Maaran, which is Dhanush's third back-to-back direct-to-OTT release, will start streaming from March 11.

Going by the trailer, the movie's story revolves around a daring investigative journalist who exposes a shrewd politician after the former comes across some heinous crimes committed by the latter. How the upset politician takes revenge on the journalist using his influence forms the rest of the story.

Samuthirakani plays the politician's role in Maaran which has Smruthi Venkat, Jayaprakash, Mahendran and Ilavarasu essaying prominent roles in it. GV Prakash has composed music for the project; the makers have unveiled two singles from the film so far.

Apart from Tamil, the movie will be released in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, too. Maaran is also Dhanush's first film this year. His last outing, Atrangi Re, was also released directly on Disney+ Hotstar. Earlier today, the movie got Twitter emoji, which was celebrated by the star's fans on social media.

This is a first-of-its-kind feat for Dhanush's film; a few Kollywood movies have achieved this rare feat before. Vijay's Mersal (streaming on Netflix and Zee5) was the first Tamil movie to have got a Twitter emoji. Maaran marks Malavika Mohanan's second outing in Tamil as a female lead after Master (streaming on Amazon Prime Video).
