Vaidai Puyal Vadivelu is all set to make a grand comeback with Mari Selvaraj's upcoming film, Maamannan. The actor is said to be playing the titular character Maamannan. During the recently held audio launch of the film at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Vadivelu stated that this was a huge film in his career and drew a comparison with the National Award-winning film, Thevar Magan.

"After Thevar Magan, this is a huge film for me. While Thevar Magan did not delve into politics, Maamannan does, albeit in a different way. The audience will be able to connect with the story and you can tell 100 stories from there. Udhayanidhi has selected a fantastic script for his landmark film. I am proud of being part of the film, too."

In Thevar Magan (1992), Vadivelu played Isakki, a crucial supporting character in the film. This was his second film with Kamal Haasan after they worked together in Singaravelan. Thevar Magan starred Sivaji Ganesan, Kamal Haasan, Revathi, Gautami, Nassar, Kaka Radhakrishnan, SN Lakshmi to name a few. The film, directed by Bharathan, went on to win five National awards.

Vadivelu added that he was glad that he got the opportunity to sing for AR Rahman in Maamannan. "I didn't sing Raasa Kannu, he made me sing. I would like to remember my late mother at this point of time and I had her blessings to sing the song. It was through the song that I realised that my mother continues to live with me."

Vadivelu added that though Maamannan is billed as the last film of Udhayanidhi Stalin as a hero in films, he will become a hero in politics. Maamannan stars Vadivelu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Fahadh Faasil and Keerthy Suresh as part of the star cast. The film is bankrolled by Red Giant Movies.
