Two months after its theatrical release, Loveyapa is set for its OTT release. The romantic comedy, featuring Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan in the lead roles, will begin streaming on JioHotstar from April 4, 2025. Advait Chandan directed Loveyapa, which is the Bollywood adaptation of the Tamil film Love Today from 2022. This narrative forces a young couple to exchange phones before their marriage.
Loveyapa plot and premise
At the heart of Loveyapa is the contemporary romance between Baani and Gaurav. Like numerous Gen-Z couples, they are unable to exist without their phones, despite their profound affection for one another. When Atul, Baani's traditional and somewhat suspicious father, attempts to test the strength of their tie, their relationship becomes a source of friction. Atul challenges Baani and Gaurav to trade their unlocked phones for the entire night. This step gives you full access to their phone, including all of their texts, images, and social media accounts. The goal is to uncover any secrets or hidden information that could indicate a lack of compatibility or trust between you.
Both partners are self-assured at the outset. In their minds, there is nothing to conceal. After looking through each other's phones, they discover new details about each other's lives. Baani becomes aware of Gaurav's flirtatious correspondence with other women, while Gaurav becomes conscious of Baani's dubious prior relationships and suspicious online interactions. A chain reaction of confrontations and disputes ensues as a result of these discoveries. The film goes into detail about how misunderstandings are common in the digital world we live in now, where details are often difficult to see and first impressions can be wrong. It also alludes to the unrealistic expectations placed on today's youth to present an idealised version of themselves online.
As the night progresses, Baani and Gaurav must confront their fears and weaknesses. It's crucial to determine whether the truths they've discovered are critical or a part of each other's past. Ultimately, the film raises the question of whether true love can survive in this digital era.
Theatrical release and box office performance
On February 7, 2025, the film Loveyapa hit theatres. The film received mixed reviews and performed poorly at the box office.
With only ₹4.25 crore (US$490,000) in domestic earnings, Loveyapa had a disappointing first weekend. With a projected worldwide gross of ₹8.80-12 crore, it ended its theatrical run.
