Lover release date – Manikandan-starrer to clash with THIS Superstar’s film

February has many interesting releases lined up, and the latest film to secure a release date in February is Lover, starring Manikandan of Good Night fame. The makers of the film shared the release date for the upcoming romantic drama on their social media handles. The movie is now officially slated to have theatrical release on February 9. Modern Love Chennai-fame Sri Gouri Priya plays the female lead in the film. 

Manikandan’s Lover to clash with Lal Salaam

Another noteworthy aspect is that the film will be clashing with Aishwarya Rajinikanth directorial Lal Salaam on February 9. The film stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in lead roles alongside Superstar Rajinikanth, who will be seen in a cameo appearance. 

Lover is a ‘serious drama’ with a pinch of romance

According to director Prabhuram, the film sheds light on challenges of making a relationship work despite the hardships. In an earlier interview, Prabhuram revealed that Lover is a film with serious tones along with intense emotions. “Lover will talk about what goes into making a relationship work. It will portray the dynamics in a relationship between a man and a woman. Lover will be a little more serious with drama and intense emotions involved”, the director said.   

The teaser, released in 2023, showcased the turbulent relationship between a couple played by Manikandan and Sri Gauri. The teaser begins with Sri Gouri's character sharing the 'tale of her love story.' It delves into the challenges she currently faces in her relationship. 

Manikandan takes on the role of a problematic boyfriend who is suspicious about her male friend's motives, while she accuses him of being extremely insecure and controlling. Subsequently, the teaser shows their separation due to the never-ending conflicts, yet it emphasises that they still hold feelings for each other. The film offers a unique perspective on toxic relationships, with Manikandan's character impressing the audience with a compelling performance. 

Interestingly, a recent video of Sri Gouri rendering her voice for a song from the film was shared on social media. The actress attained fame through her performance in Modern Love Chennai series on Amazon Prime.  

Besides Manikandan and Sri Gouri Priya, Kanna Ravi plays a key role in the film. Shreyaas Krishna is cranking the camera for the film, while Sean Roldan is the music composer. Barath Vikraman is the editor, while Rajkamal is the production designer.   

The movie is produced by Million Dollar Studios and M R P Entertainment, who were the makers of Manikandan's previous hit film Good Night.
