Actor-screenwriter Manikandan starrer Lover is gaining a lot of momentum at the Tamil Nadu box office. Written and directed by debutant Prabhuram Vyas, the movie revolves around a complicated relationship between a couple, who are seemingly growing weary of each other.
The filmmakers have unveiled new footage from Lover, shedding light on the emotional crux of the love-hate relationship that the lead pair shares.
The scene shows Manikandan's Arun storming into a residential building and he seems emotionally disturbed. He rushes to his girlfriend's flat and summons her to follow him to the ground floor at once. "Let's talk inside. Last time you caused a lot of trouble here," Sri Gouri Priya's Divya pleads to Arun in vain.
Arun is in no mood to pay heed to her request or behave in an appropriate way. He's filled with frustration, questions and simmering rage. He doubles down on his loud and brash behaviour to further antagonise Divya because he also seems to want her to feel the same pain he's feeling. It appears that Arun feels betrayed by Divya for going out with a male colleague.
In a matter of seconds, the situation escalates into a full-fledged conflict, with Arun and Divya sticking to their guns. Arun desires control over Divya and insists on giving his permission before she makes any decisions in her life. Divya, on the other hand, rebels against Arun's tyrant approach, creating a significant rift between them and making the process of reconciliation even more challenging.
Lover is hailed by the audiences as the most realistic portrayal of modern-day relationship challenges. From the general public to celebrities, praises for the movie add to its appeal among young audiences.
Recently, filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj also gave a glowing review of the movie, stating, "Loved the film #Lover A well written n made love drama with awesome performances Please do watch this film in theatres."
The favourable reviews are steadily contributing to the film's box office performance. It seems to be doing better than Lal Salaam, which stars Superstar Rajinikanth in an extended cameo, in terms of ticket sales in Tamil Nadu.
