Lovely, starring young Malayalam actor Mathew Thomas in the lead role, has got a new release date. The film, touted to be a fantasy comedy drama, was earlier slated to release in April. Now, the makers of the Dileesh Karunakaran directorial have confirmed that the film has been postponed to May, which will also see the release of other upcoming Malayalam films such as Asif Ali-starrer Sarkeet and Dileep's Prince and Family.
Mathew Thomas’ Lovely to release in May 2025
Mathew Thomas, who has featured in movies such as Premalu and 18+, took to Instagram on Saturday to announce that his next film, Lovely, will release in cinemas on May 2, 2025.
"Lovely- A magical fantasy where the smallest things spark the biggest adventures- is landing in theatres on May 2nd,” he wrote on social media.
The film was earlier slated to release on April 4, but failed to keep the scheduled date and there was no official update from the makers till now.
The film is also penned by director Dileesh Karunakaran, who has co-written popular films such as Salt N’ Pepper and Mayaanadhi, both of which were directed by Aashiq Abu. Notably, Aashiq Abu serves as a cinematographer in Lovely.
Manoj K Jayan, Radhika, Ashwathy Manoharan, Ganga Meera and Prashanth Murali are also part of Lovely, which is backed by Western Ghats Productions in association with Neni Entertainment.
In Malayalam, Mathew was last seen in Bromance, along with Super Sharanya star Arjun Ashokan, Mahima Nambiar and Sangeeth Prathap. He also featured in the Tamil film Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, directed by Dhanush.
Other Malayalam films releasing in May 2025
Several Malayalam films are lined up for release in May. Asif Ali's film Sarkeet, helmed by 1001 Nunakal director Thamar KV, will release on May 8. Dileep's Prince and Family, which was also earlier scheduled for an April release, will now hit cinemas on May 9. Dhyan Sreenivasan’s Detective Ujjwalan could also hit cinemas in May, though the makers are yet to confirm the release date.
