These films make the viewers' hearts race as they track the life of the victims, from before the kidnapping, to when they are rescued. These films often involve a dedicated police official or a loved one determined to crack the code and locate the missing person. Netflix's recent offering Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey is about a 17-year-old girl who uses reverse psychology to free herself from her captors. However, when she goes back home, not everyone believes she was kidnapped, except a detective, who realizes she was abducted by a dangerous serial killer.   1. Panic room

After three men break into their home, a mother daughter-duo takes refuge in the panic room. Played by Jodie Foster, this single, divorced mother must look after her diabetic daughter and keep her safe. When Stu Shepard hears a phone ringing at a phone booth, he decides to answer the call, which changes his life. Post the call, he finds himself held captive in the booth by a sniper on the other end of the call. He finds himself at gunpoint with a sniper who happens to know deeply personal facts about his life that only someone close to him would know.

The film stars Denzel Washington in the lead role as Creasy - an alcoholic ex-CIA agent. He is hired to keep a young girl safe in Mexico, who happens to be the daughter of a wealthy man. However, he develops a strong bond with the girl, who soon gets kidnapped. This is when the film takes a drastic turn, as he goes on a mission of vengeance.

Bruce Willis stars in this unique film, where he plays the role of a former hostage negotiator who arrives at a kidnapping scene. However, things take an unexpected turn when it dawns upon him that the kidnappers he is trying to nab, have also abducted his own family. The kidnappers state that they will release his family only if he hands them a DVD with important evidence against them. This is when he is faced with a dilemma and must choose between who to save.

5. Captivity

This film revolves around a woman who attends a charity event and consumes a spiked drink. It is after this that she finds herself trapped in a cellar. She soon learns that there is a man captured in the cellar beside her, and together they plot to escape. However, their task is not a piece of cake, as they are under constant surveillance by a captor who tortures them through notes and video footage.

6. Taken

Liam Neeson stars in this film as a CIA officer who is against his teen daughter going to Paris on vacation. However, his fears turn into reality when she gets kidnapped by a prostitution ring in Paris. Neeson then learns that he has only 96 hours to save his daughter before she is sold as a sex slave.

7. The call

This film follows a veteran 911 operator who gets a call from a teenager who has been kidnapped. The film takes an interesting turn when she realizes that the man who has kidnapped her has also kidnapped and killed other young girls in the past. Halle Berry plays the 911 operator, and she takes it upon herself to rescue the girl and make the kidnapper feel what his victims went through, fear and vulnerability.

8. Don't say a word

This film revolves around Michael Douglas, a psychiatrist whose daughter has been abducted. The abductors demand that he find out a secret of one of his patients, who suffers from a severe stress disorder. The film stars fantastic actors and makes for an interesting and entertaining watch.

9. Gone baby gone

This crime drama is Ben Affleck's directorial debut, which is set in Boston. In the film, Casey Affleck plays the role of a private investigator who has been hired to help a family find their missing daughter. 10. Red eye

Red Eye is a thriller starring Rachel McAdams, a youngster on a red-eye flight. She finds herself sitting next to a charming stranger, played by Cillian Murphy. The film takes an interesting turn when the man tells her that her father will be killed if she doesn't help him orchestrate his evil plan.
