As we move through November, it’s been exactly a year since Loki Season 2 first streamed on Disney+. The show, starring Tom Hiddleston as the God of Mischief, transformed the way audiences perceive this iconic anti-hero. Running for two seasons, it has become one of the most beloved and positively reviewed Marvel Cinematic Universe series to date. Yet, there’s been little news on whether a third season is in the works. Rumors about Loki Season 3 have circulated, but no concrete information has emerged. With Jonathan Majors and his character Kang reportedly out of the MCU, the prospect of a continuation seems uncertain. However, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, has recently given fans a glimmer of hope.
In Loki Season 2, Tom Hiddleston returned as the God of Mischief, this time on a mission to prevent the collapse of the timelines and avert global chaos. The season showed Loki evolving from anti-hero to true hero, taking on the role of savior at the TVA office. With the Multiverse expanding around him, he realized a grander purpose and ultimately became the God of Time. Now, as fans eagerly await news on a potential third season, Winderbaum has shared an update.
According to The Direct, Brad Winderbaum spoke at D23 Brazil 2024. When asked if there’s any possibility of a Loki Season 3, he gave a noncommittal but hopeful response: “There’s always a chance.” Winderbaum also discussed the release frequency of MCU shows on Disney+. “I think it’s going to be variable,” he said. “We’re going to aim at two [releases per year]; it might be two and a half, it might be one some years. We have a long development process now, so we’re only going into production on projects we really believe in.”
The official synopsis for Season 2 reads: “Loki Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15, and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous Multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes, and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.”
The cast includes Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Tara Strong, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil Ellice, Jonathan Majors, Ke Huy Quan, and Owen Wilson. With Jonathan Majors reportedly no longer part of the MCU and the entire Kang storyline potentially being reworked, it will be intriguing to see where Marvel Studios can take Loki—the God of Mischief, now the God of Time—next.
The two seasons of Loki are currently streaming on Disney+. Stay tuned to OTTplay for updates on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
