Even though earlier it was rumoured that the ultimate superstar of Tamil cinema is planning to retire from acting after his 170th project, the latest updates have confirmed it is false. Now, the latest updates suggest that Rajinikanth already has a massive line-up of projects for 2024 and 2025, in his kitty.

The veteran actor will be next seen in Lal Salaam, the upcoming film helmed by his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth, in which he is making a cameo appearance. Now, the recent updates suggest that Rajinikanth is set to join hands with acclaimed director Mari Selvaraj for his 172nd outing in the Tamil film industry. However, the director has not reacted to the reports, yet.

Vettaiyan

Rajinikanth is teaming up with renowned filmmaker TJ Gnanavel for his next outing as a leading man. The project, which marks his 170th outing in cinema, is tited Vettaiyan. The superstar is playing the titular character in the movie, which is touted to be an action-packed social thriller. The promising teaser of Vettaiyan, which was released on Rajinikanth’s birthday, had went viral on social media. The project, which is produced by Lyca Productions, is expected to hit the theatres by the Summer of 2024.

Thalaivar 171

After wrapping up Vettaiyan, Rajinikanth will immediately start shooting for his 171st outing, which is helmed by hitmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. The movie, which is touted be a fantasy action film, reportedly features the superstar in a full-fledged negative role. Even though nothing much has been revealed about the project, director Lokesh recently confirmed that he is trying a new genre with the movie, which is an experimental project. More details on Thalaivar 171, which is bankrolled by Sun Pictures, are expected to be revealed soon.

Thalaivar 172

If the latest reports are to be believed, Rajinikanth is set to team up with talented director Mari Selvaraj, for his 172nd project. The movie, which is touted to be a social drama, is expected to be bankrolled by the banner Seven Screen Studios, which has produced many prestigious projects including the recent blockbuster Leo. The untitled project is expected to have its official announcement soon.

Thalaivar 173

The grapevine suggests that Rajinikanth is planning to reunite with the Jailer director Nelson Dilipkumar, for his 173rd movie. Some unconfirmed reports also suggest that the duo is teaming up for the highly anticipated sequel of their first outing Jailer, which was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023. The movie, which has been tentatively titled Jailer 2, is also expected to have its official launch in a couple of months.

Thalaivar 174

Rajinikanth is expected to reunite with Karthik Subbaraj, the supremely talented director after the massive success of Petta, for his 174th film. Even though there is no official confirmation on the same so far, director Karthik recently revealed that he is indeed working on a new script for the superstar. However, it is yet to be revealed if the duo is reuniting for Petta 2, or a fresh subject. The project is expected to be bankrolled by Sun Pictures.
