Kolamavu Kokila – ZEE5
Kolamavu Kokila is written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar in his directorial debut. The black comedy film is headlined by Nayanthara and revolves around a girl who gets involved in drug trafficking network in order to help her family in case of an emergency. The film became a commercial success at the time of its release and won positive reviews. The film eventually gave limelight to Nelson, who went on to make black comedy films like Doctor, Beast and Jailer.
Soodhu Kavvum - ZEE5
Soodhu Kavvum is directed by Nalan Kumarasamy in his directorial debut and stars Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha, Ashok Selvan, Ramesh Thilak, Karunakaran and Sanchita Shetty in the lead roles. The film revolves around a kidnapping gang that abducts a politician's son for ransom. But it turns out that the son has been orchestrating his own kidnap to get money from his family. The film became one of the earlier successes in Vijay Sethupathi's career. A sequel titled Soodhu Kavvum II: Naadum Naatu Makkalum is in the making.
Super Deluxe - Netflix
Super Deluxe is a hyperlink crime comedy drama directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja. The film is divided in four parts, and gets connected during the climax. It involves four different types of situations ranging from a transwoman meeting her son to a husband coming to know of his wife's cheating and helping her to hide her lover's dead body. Super Deluxe was a critical success and stars Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Mysskin, Ramya Krishnan, and others.
Moodar Koodam – Disney+ Hotstar
Moodar Koodam is about four individuals who come together for one mission: to rob a wealthy man. But fate has it when they come to know he is bankrupt after reaching his doorstep. Produced and directed by Naveen, the film stars himself along with Sendrayan, Kuberan, and Rajaji in lead roles. Oviya, Anupama Kumar, Jayaprakash, Five Star Krishna, and others.
Jigarthanda – Disney+ Hotstar
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Jigarthanda stars Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Lakshmi Menon, Guru Somasundaram and others. The film won two National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Bobby Simha and Best Editing for Vivek Harshan. It revolves around a filmmaker who travels to Madurai in order to research for his gangster film. While observing one, played by Bobby Simha, it turns out the latter wants himself to be cast in the film. The film was a commercial success and a prequel titled Jigarthanda DoubleX was made in 2023.
