Thrillers seem to be ruling the roost these days in Malayalam cinema. But even in that genre, Malayalam cop thrillers have a dedicated fan following with movies such as Kannur Squad and Asif Ali and Biju Menon’s Thalavan turning out to be winners at the box office too. From Prithviraj Sukumaran's Mumbai Police to Dulquer Salmaan-starrer Salute, here are the Malayalam cop thrillers that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end.
Rekhachithram, starring Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan, follows a cop who sets out to identify a nameless victim after the police find a skeleton. As he investigates, he is led on to a 1985 film set where a young girl was reported to be missing. The gripping film is a must-watch movie for fans of thrillers.
The Rosshan Andrrews’ directorial has Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role of ACP Antony Moses along with Jayasurya, and Rahman in senior cop roles. ACP Antony tracks down the killer in the murder case of a friend, when he meets with an accident that leaves him with memory loss. He once again has to probe the case and find the killer. This film with an unconventional climax is a must-watch for fans of cop thriller movies.
Mammootty headlines Kannur Squad as ASI George Martin as he and his cops set out to track down a criminal gang. Azees Nedumangad, Rony David Raj, and Shabareesh Varma play the other CPOs who are part of the Kannur Squad, directed by Roby Varghese Raj, that was a winner at the box office too.
Biju Menon and Asif Ali play CI Jayashankar and SI Karthik who don’t see eye-to-eye despite working in the same police station. After a dead body is found at the CI's house, the tables turn, and SI Karthik is tasked with the investigation. The Malayalam film, which takes a close look at the hierarchy in the police force, promises a gripping watch.
Rosshan Andrrews once again joined hands with Bobby-Sanjay for this Dulquer Salmaan-starrer. DQ stars as SI Aravind Karunakaran, who along with other cops arrest a suspect and frame him after forging false evidence. But the cop, who realises his mistake, is determined to set the record straight. Manoj K. Jayan also plays a key role in the film.
CI Sajan Philip and team go after the suspects in a jewellery theft case, who escape to Rajasthan. Asif Ali headlines this film along with Sunny Wayne, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sharafudheen, and Senthil Krishna in key roles. Acclaimed director Rajeev Ravi has directed this movie.
