Malayalam cinema has truly proved that it is a force to reckon with when it comes to action thrillers after Unni Mukundan’s brutal Marco powered its way through the box office. Joju George’s directorial Pani and Mammootty-starrer Turbo were also high on action. So from Unni Mukundan’s Marco to Tovino Thomas-starrer Identity, here are the Malayalam action thrillers to watch on SonyLiv and Zee5. Notably, all these movies are also available on OTTplay Premium at an exclusive discounted rate.
Unni Mukundan unleashed his most brutal avatar yet onscreen, giving Malayalam its most violent action movie ever. The Haneef Adeni directorial narrates the tale of Marco, who goes on a killing spree after his foster brother Victor, who is also blind, gets killed. Siddique, Jagadish, Kabir Duhan Singh, and Abhimanyu Shammi Thilakan play other key roles in the film, which won over audiences outside Kerala too.
Joju George stepped into direction with Pani, which is also a violent revenge thriller. Two youngsters, who venture into the Thrissur criminal world, come across Giri who humiliates them. Now, the youngsters are hell-bent on taking revenge on Giri and his family
Mammootty as 'Turbo' Jose is in charge of this film, which is directed by Vysakh and scripted by Midhun Manuel Thomas. As he is on the lookout for a job in Chennai, Jose encounters a brutal kingmaker. Raj B Shetty is the antagonist in this thriller, which is high on action.
Tovino Thomas shoulders this slick action thriller, which also has Trisha Krishnan and Vinay Rai in other pivotal roles. Sketch artist Haran is roped in to help the police catch an elusive killer with Alisha being the sole witness. The film features a thrilling car chase and even fight sequences set inside a commercial and chartered flight, not a common sight in Malayalam films.
Antony Varghese Pepe’s Ajagajantharam follows the chaotic chain of events that unravel at a pooram (temple festival) in a village in Kerala. Some youth, a criminal, and villagers all get involved as mayhem breaks out. Arjun Ashokan, Jaffer Idukki and Sabumon are also part of this film, directed by Tinu Pappachan.
