Malayalam cinema has churned out several gripping courtroom dramas over the years which have had the audiences rooting for the characters as they pursued justice. Movies such as Kunchacko Boban-starrer Nna Thaan Case Kodu and Mohanlal’s Neru also scripted success at the box office, while Saudi Vellakka went on to win accolades at the National Awards. From Neru to the acclaimed Saudi Vellakka, here are the must-watch Malayalam courtroom dramas on OTT
Drishyam director Jeethu Joseph once again joined hands with Mohanlal to bring this riveting courtroom drama that battled for the justice of a blind assault victim. Anaswara Rajan plays Sara, who despite the odds stacked against her, dares to speak up for what is right. Mohanlal helps her in her quest for justice as advocate Vijayamohan in this film, which knocked down several stereotypes about how assault victims should ‘behave’.

Tharun Moorthy brings this moving tale of an elderly woman who slaps a child in a fit of rage. This incident escalates into a case, which drags on for years. The little boy has grown into a youth, but there seems to be no end to the long-drawn court proceedings. Devi Varma and Lukman Avaran shoulder this acclaimed Malayalam film, which stands out from other courtroom dramas that are more dramatic.
Rajeevan, who was once a thief, mends his ways after meeting Devi. But after certain events, Rajeevan is accused of theft and decides to fight for the case in court himself. The courtroom scenes, marked by witty and sarcastic dialogues, are buoyed by some terrific performances of Kunchacko Boban as Rajeevan and PP Kunhikrishnan, who plays the role of the magistrate.
The film follows the events after a professor's death, which leads to huge protests. The case comes up in court with Prithviraj Sukumaran as advocate Aravind Swaminathan who seeks to set the account straight. His dramatic dialogues are a highlight of this film, which has Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mamta Mohandas in other key roles.
After a young house help is raped and murdered, the meek Unni Thampuran is arrested for the crime. The public prosecutor Aniyan Kuruvilla (Mammootty), however, finds holes in the investigation and sets out to fight for Unni’s justice instead. Jagathy Sreekumar, Maniyanpilla Raju, Vijayaraghavan and Rajan P. Dev are also part of the supporting cast.
