Khan and Murugadoss co-wrote the remake while Aamir suggested some changes to suit the taste of the Hindi audience.

But their rival factions are not far behind, both equally determined to end their illicit relationship.

Brothers Sanjaylal and Ratanlal Sharma, are two working-class lads who live in the college town of Dehradun. During a fierce rivalry between the three major public schools in the area, Ratan gets defeated in a bicycle race. Soon after this, the boys' father vows to win back their respect.

Dil was released on 15 June 1990 and became the highest-grossing film of the year. The film was remade in Telugu (1993) under the title Tholi Muddu. The film was also remade in Kannada as Shivaranjani (1997). The plot follows Raja and Madhu falling in love with each other and getting married against their parents' wishes. However, both their fathers make an attempt to separate them.
