Celebrating the 21st anniversary of Andaaz, Bollywood fans can't help but think back on the incredible chemistry that existed between Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the film. With their captivating presence and impressive range, the actors have wowed moviegoers in a number of films. From Priyanka's Bollywood debut in the romantic musical Andaaz to Akshay and her dramatic thriller Aitraaz and lighthearted comedy Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, the duo has consistently demonstrated why they are one of the most beloved onscreen couples in the industry.
In 2003, Raj Kanwar directed and Suneel Darshan produced the romantic musical film Andaaz. Robin Bhatt, Jainendra Jain, and Shyam Goel penned the film, which stars Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Lara Dutta. This is the first Bollywood film role for both Lara and Priyanka.
In the film, Lara Dutta's Kajal, Raj's (Akshay Kumar's) childhood friend, falls in love with young pilot Karan (Aman Verma) and marries him. Even though he has a hard time letting go of Kajal, Raj reluctantly agrees to their marriage. Nevertheless, giving in to his family's demands, he gets ready to marry Jiya (Priyanka Chopra), a girl from the posh neighbourhood. Soon after, he learns that Karan has passed away and Jiya is Kajal's sister-in-law, which distresses him to see her in such a negative light. Would Raj jeopardise his own marriage to aid Kajal? The film then shows what follows.
David Dhawan and Sajid Nadiadwala collaborated on the 2004 romantic comedy film Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Priyanka Chopra are the main stars of the film, which also features supporting roles from Amrish Puri, Kader Khan, Satish Shah, and Rajpal Yadav. Mujhse Shaadi Karogi primarily takes place in Goa, chronicling the journey of two male protagonists, Salman and Akshay, as they pursue Priyanka.
Young Sameer (Salman Khan) has a temper and a penchant for getting into trouble. After his lover breaks up with him, he moves to Goa to get a job as a lifeguard and is completely devastated. Next, Sameer begins to develop feelings for his next-door neighbour, Rani (Priyanka Chopra), but she harbours bitterness towards him due to an incident in which he slapped her father. Akshay Kumar's Sunny, Sameer's new flatmate, is a horny playboy who harbours feelings for Rani. As a result, Sameer and Sunny get into a wild power struggle to win Rani's heart.
Abbas Mustan directed the 2004 romantic thriller Aitraaz, with production duties handled by Subhash Ghai. Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are the lead actors in the film. The female boss in Aitraaz accuses her male subordinate of sexual harassment. The film marked Priyanka's debut performance as an antagonist, and people praised her for her bold act.
Raj (Akshay), a married man, faces false accusations of rape from his ex-girlfriend Sonia (Priyanka), who also happens to be his employer's (Amrish Puri) wife. Despite the social pressures, he is motivated to sue her for sexual harassment.
Filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah's 2005 comedy-drama Waqt: The Race Against Time is based on Aatish Kapadia's Gujarati play. The film boasts Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Shefali Shah, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the lead roles, along with Boman Irani and Rajpal Yadav in supporting roles.
The story follows Ishwarchandra Thakur (Bachchan), a wealthy elderly man who, out of the blue, becomes extremely severe with his spoilt son Aditya (Kumar) in an effort to teach him some valuable lessons in life before he dies. Although Ishwarchandra and his son have a strong relationship, Ishwarchandra sends him packing as a punishment for being ill-prepared for marriage. The film portrays Akshay and Priyanka as lovers who elope and marry. But they stand together through thick and thin, despite Bachchan's character ousting them from their lavish home.
