Karan Johar is never one to shy away from drama, a trait which made him quite popular as host of his chat show, Koffee with Karan. Even his way of announcing a new season of the popular chat show was nothing short of dramatic. After stating with ‘a heavy heart’ that ‘Koffee with Karan will not be returning..’, the filmmaker surprised fans by announcing that the show is coming back, just not on TV. A new season of Koffee with Karan will be available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

As fans anxiously await what Karan has in store for season 7, here’s a look back at some of the most controversial moments of the show where celebrities found themselves in ‘hot water’.

Kangana Ranaut accusing KJo as being a ‘flag bearer of nepotism’

Kangana Ranaut has found herself in the headlines quite a few times for her controversial take on several issues. The actress took her ‘outspoken’ nature on to KJo’s couch as well in 2017, and it was Karan’s turn to be grilled. When the host asked Ranaut who in the industry gave her ‘unnecessary attitude’, she quickly replied that it was KJo himself. She went on to add more searing remarks and even called the filmmaker a ‘flag bearer of nepotism’, while her co-guest Saif Ali Khan is seen sitting uncomfortably.

Hardik Pandya’s misogynistic remarks

Cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul found themselves in murky waters during their 2019 appearance on the talk show. KJo’s amicable demeanor seemed to have made Pandya let his guard down, as he went on to make a spree of unfiltered comments about his sexual exploits that a lot of people found distasteful and sexist. Pandya and his teammate were the subject of criticism for their appearance on the show, and were even suspended by the BCCI for a period of time. Pandya later apologised for his remarks.

Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor piling on Ranbir Kapoor

It is not a secret that Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor’s relationship did not end on the best of terms, with the latter having admitted to cheating on her. Deepika seemed to spare no chance at taking a shot at her ex, which she did memorably on an appearance on Koffee with Karan in 2010. When KJo asked Deepika about which product Ranbir should promote, the actress replied ‘condoms’. She also took a dig at the actor’s infidelity and ‘boyfriend skills’. Sonam Kapoor, who also appeared in the episode along with Deepika, did not refrain from casting doubt on Ranbir’s fidelity.

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s jab at Priyanka Chopra’s accent

Kareena Kapoor’s claws seemed to come out on her Koffee with Karan during her appearance in the show’s third season. Kareena had no hesitation in blurting out a question to frenemy, Priyanka Chopra, asking PC where she got the accent from. Priyanka proved that she can give as good as she gets by taking a dig at Kareena when it was the former’s turn on the couch. PC answered that she got the accent at the same place where Kareena’s boyfriend had. The duo also made an appearance on the show together.

When Alia Bhatt confused Prithviraj Chauhan with the Indian President

Koffee with Karan’s rapid fire round has led to some of the most memorable moments on the show, and Alia Bhatt fell victim to it as well. The Gangubai Kathiawadi star made her debut in Karan’s Student of The Year, which also launched the careers of Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. When the trio made their first appearance on the show together, they were asked who the Indian President was. Alia was the first to answer and shouted ‘Prithviraj Chauhan’. The actress became the subject of trolling and memes due to the incident thereon.
