Food is a universal love language. And when films that talk about food come out, it gets even the better. While there have been films like Cheeni Kum to Ustaad Hotel, which had made us drool over the delicious recipes they make, Tamil cinema too has its own titles that are not only drool-worthy but also bingeable. With MasterChef Tamil streaming on SonyLIV and OTTplay Premium from April 22, here are some food-related films to watch now.

Un Samayal Arayil is a romantic comedy drama and a remake of the Malayalam film Salt N' Pepper. Starring Prakash Raj, Sneha, Urvashi, Samyukta Hornad and others, the film is about two middle-aged people who connect over their shared love for food. Over the course of time, they develop feelings for each other, while bonding over food. When they decide to meet each other one fine day, a chain of events sets motion for his hilarious romantic drama. The film is directed by Prakash Raj.

Seththumaan is a poignant tale of a basket weaver, Poochi, who wishes his little grandson gets a good education and life. Often treated as an outcast due to his caste, Seththumaan is about when a privileged caste person employs Poochi to cook pork for him. With pigs and pork seen as chastised by the society, the film carefully points out the hierarchy in society and its repercussions. The film is directed by Thamizh and is adapted from Perumal Murugan's story.

The Great Indian Kitchen is the remake of the hit Malayalam film of the same name. The Tamil remake stars Aishwarya Rajesh and Rahul Ravindran in the lead roles. As the title suggests, the film highlights the boundaries of the kitchen in which women are enclosed in a patriarchal society. The film follows the life of a newly-wed couple. The wife who moves into her in-laws’ house becomes kitchen-bound and faces the wrath of misogyny.

Kalakalappu is about a man who runs an ancestral restaurant which keeps incurring losses. Following a health inspector shutting it down, it paves the way for a series of hilarious events after his brother steps in to save the restaurant. The film is directed by Sundar C and stars Vimal, Shiva, Oviya, Anjali and Santhanam, among others.

Theeni or Ninnila Ninnila is a romantic comedy starring Ashok Selvan, Ritu Varma, Nithya Menen, Nassar and Satya among others. The film is directed by Ani IV Sasi and follows the life of an overweight chef after he falls in love with his co-worker. When things seem to go right, another woman enters his life, changing it all together differently.
