Lojja is not the only one

Lojja, however, is a part of Hoichoi’s list of shows that focus on women’s empowerment. From marital rape to the ‘Me Too’ movement and underage marriage that is plaguing rural Bengal – a lot of such issues are dealt with in their shows. Here is a lowdown on what and why to watch them.

Bodhon (Seasons 1 and 2)

Bodhon is arguably Sandipta Sen’s magical entry to OTT stardom. She plays Raka Sen – a professor who stands by her student Shinjini (Ditipriya Roy) after she is raped after a party. Raka Sen’s indomitable spirit made the show popular. So much so that Hoichoi dropped the second season of Bodhon, where Raka Sen takes on the issue of child marriage and human trafficking gangs in rural Bengal. With Indrasish Roy playing a ruthless antagonist, season 2 of Bodhon was lauded by viewers and critics alike.

Sampurna

The first season of Sampurna deals with one of the most serious issues of abuse: Marital rape. In an intense series, Sohini Sarkar and Rajnandini Paul bring out the crisis and insecurities a woman faces after she is raped by her husband. After the tremendous success of season one, the second season was dropped. The newest season deals with child abuse. Besides Sohini and Rajnandini, Kaushik Sen makes an entry to the series.

Noshtoneer

Noshtineer is, once again, driven by Sandipta Sen. Aparna’s (played by her) family gets disrupted as a young woman Godhuli (Angana Roy) calls out the former’s husband Rishav (Shoumo Banerjee), who is a professor. After initial denial, Aparna investigates and finds out the reality. The show deals with issues like ‘Me Too’ and how unknowingly people tend to become enablers. The second season of the show is on the cards.

Indu

Indu features Ishaa Saha in the lead and emerges as one of the pioneering woman-centric shows of Hoichoi. While the show is billed as a mystery, it unfolds a lot of drama about gender equality and patriarchy.
