Filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery resumed the shooting of his most-ambitious movie yet Malaikottai Vaaliban in Chennai. It's said that the producers have built massive sets for the movie in a studio in Chennai. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will join the sets soon after he returns to the country. Mohanlal has been holidaying with his wife in Japan, where he celebrated his 35th wedding anniversary with his wife Suchitra.
The filmmakers unveiled Mohanlal's look from the movie earlier this year. The poster was specifically created to emphasise the immense physical power of Mohanlal's character. The poster features a muscular Mohanlal sporting a distinct hairstyle, appearing to exert himself as he pulls an incredibly heavy object. The image is reminiscent of the character Atlas from Greek mythology, who was tasked with holding up the world. The poster also suggests that Malaikottai Vaaliban might be a period drama.
The shooting of Malaikottai Vaaliban began in January of this year, making it potentially the longest movie shoot in Lijo's career. This is notable because Lijo is known for completing his movies within weeks. For instance, Jallikattu, Lijo's breakout movie, which was India's official entry to the Oscars in 2021, was shot in just 39 days. Malaikottai Vaaliban is a much grander project in both its scope and ambition. Mohanlal, who stars in the film, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure its success.
Reports suggest that he plays the role of a wrestler and has been working out vigorously to look the part. He continues to hit the gym even on shoot days, as is evident from his latest photos, where he flaunts a well-toned physique.
The 62-year-old superstar's fans are hopeful that Malaikottai Vaaliban will break his losing streak, as his last few films were both commercial and critical failures.
Mohanlal will be also seen in a special appearance in Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer.
