Be it the way he carries himself on or off-screen, actor Vijay Deverakonda is in a league of his own. Recently, when several media reports speculated that the star's next multilingual sports film Liger could release on an OTT platform and that the makers have been offered Rs 200 crore for the same, he responded in a style so unique to him, "Too little. I'll do more in the theatres."
Liger, directed by Puri Jagannadh, also starring Ananya Pandey, Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Roy and Makarand Deshpande in key roles, commenced shooting in early 2020 before lockdown halted their plans. The team met with a similar fate in 2021 too, with several portions of Liger yet to be filmed. However, it is not known if the makers will release the film in theatres on September 9.
The film is expected to release in as many as five languages - Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, with the Hindi version presented by Dharma Productions' Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta. Vijay Deverakonda has an exciting lineup of projects ahead and will team up with Shiva Nirvana and Sukumar once he wraps up his current commitments. His last theatrical release was World Famous Lover (streaming on SunNXT and Netflix), an action-romance that didn't quite set the cash registers ringing.
