Leo: Thalapathy Vijay to make this exception for Kerala fans?

It would be an understatement to say that Leo is one of the most awaited movies of 2023. Written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the movie stars Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role. And with just a couple of months to its theatrical release, the makers are pulling all stops to ensure that it's a wide reception. 

Thalapathy Vijay enjoys a massive fan following in Kerala. Domestically, Kerala could be termed as Vijay's second biggest market after his home state Tamil Nadu. So much so that Vijay's opening day collection in Kerala rivals the biggest stars of Malayalam cinema. And the trade is expecting nothing less than a phenomenal blockbuster in Leo, which has caught the imagination of the movie-buffs in the state.

The Lokesh Kanagaraj factor

Leo is Lokesh Kanagaraj's second collaboration with Vijay and the director has also developed a significant fan following in the state post the success of Vikram. Starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role, Vikram grossed over Rs 40 crore in Kerala alone. Till Jailer, Vikram remained the highest Tamil earner in the state. However, the Rajinikath-starrer surpassed Vikram by raking in more than Rs 50 crore in just three weeks after its release.

So the exhibitors and distributors are preparing the ground for a grand welcome to Leo across the cinemas in the state. 

Promotional strategy

Sree Gokulam, one of the leading film distributors in Kerala, is planning grand promotional activities for Leo. And one of the key factors in the company's marketing plan includes bringing Thalapathy Vijay to Kerala. The distributors are said to be in the process of making this plan happen. However, an official confirmation is still awaited. 

Will Thalapathy Vijay agree?

Thalapathy Vijay is known for not aggressively promoting his movies. He typically refrains from promotional tours and press interactions in the run-up to the release of his movies. What remains to be seen is whether Vijay will make an exception for Leo.
