According to recent reports, Telugu filmmaker Gopichand Malineni is rumoured to be directing Tamil superstar Vijay in his next project. Although official confirmation is yet to be made, this news has already created quite a buzz among fans.
Gopichand is known for his unapologetic, over-the-top masala entertainers, and has previously directed hit movies such as Bodyguard, Balupu, Pandaga Chesko, Winner, and Krack. Earlier this year, he tasted box office success with Veera Simha Reddy, which starred Telugu superstar Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role. Despite mixed reviews, the movie turned out to be a profitable venture for its producers.
If the rumours are true, this project will mark Vijay's second cross-industry pairing, following his collaboration with director Vamshi Paidipally for Varisu. Produced by popular Telugu producer Dil Raju, the movie earned nearly Rs 300 crore from its worldwide ticket sales after its release in January this year.
Currently, Vijay is busy shooting for his upcoming movie Leo , which is being written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The filming of the movie, which is said to be a 100% Lokesh movie, has been going on in full swing. This marks the second collaboration between Vijay and Lokesh after the blockbuster hit Master.
The crew of Leo faced some challenges during the shoot, including earthquake tremors in the Kashmir valley where they were filming. However, they persevered and worked tirelessly to complete the big-budget movie. As a gesture of appreciation, Lokesh released a behind-the-scenes video to thank the cast and crew for their hard work and dedication. The production is now going on in Chennai and the filmmaker has promised to deliver "an amazing action movie."
Besides Vijay, Leo boasts of an ensemble cast that includes Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Priya Anand, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan, Sandy Master, and Mathew Thomasamong others.
