In response to the mounting controversy surrounding Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's smoking portrayal in the song Naa Ready from the upcoming film Leo, the movie's production team has taken a proactive step. To address the concerns raised by critics and social activists, the filmmakers have included a disclaimer in the recently released lyrical video of the song.
The disclaimer serves as a clarification, aiming to provide context and prevent any misinterpretation of the song's content. By adding this statement, the production team aims to underline their intention not to promote or endorse smoking or any form of substance abuse through the song or the film.
The controversy initially erupted when Pattali Makkal Katchi president and Member of Parliament Anbumani Ramadoss criticised Vijay for glorifying smoking in the song. Following that, a Chennai-based social activist filed a complaint against the film, alleging the promotion of drug usage through the song's visuals.
Composed by Anirudh Ravichander, Naa Ready song was released on June 22 to coincide with Vijay's 49th birthday. The song was an instant hit, thanks to Anirudh's folk beats and Vijay's singing talent. The new party anthem was written by Vishnu Edavan. Since the release of the song, many have claimed filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj has left a trail of clues for his fans to decipher. Many are convinced that Leo is part of the cinematic universe , that Lokesh is building with movies like Kaithi and Vikram.
Besides Vijay, Leo boasts of an ensemble cast that includes Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Priya Anand, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan, Sandy Master, and Mathew Thomas among others. In addition, Lokesh has also roped in some popular YouTubers for cameo appearances.
Leo is due in cinemas in October this year.
