The presence of Malayalam actors in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Cinematic Universe (LCU) continues to grow with each film. If he started out with Narain in Kaithi, he added Fahadh Faasil, Kalidas Jayaram and Chemban Vinod Jose in Vikram and has now got veteran star Babu Antony to star in his latest film Leo, which has Thalapathy Vijay in the lead.

The film’s stunt directors Anbariv duo must be credited for Babu Antony, who had also played a pivotal role in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan films, becoming part of Leo. They had suggested the actor after having worked with him in the upcoming Malayalam release RDX earlier this year.

How Anbariv suggested Babu Antony for Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo

In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Babu tells us, “Lokesh saw a couple of shots and Anbariv duo suggested me for Leo.” The actor’s character look was revealed along with Arjun Sarja’s in a recent teaser of the latter’s role, Harold Das, in Leo.

Both Arjun Sarja and Sanjay Dutt’s character seem to be related in the film, which has them as antagonists, and Babu Antony plays a member of the group. While the actor says that he can’t reveal too much about the movie, he explains, “It was a great experience shooting for the movie. It’s well-made and Lokesh’s shots are precise.”

Babu Antony on working with Vijay and Karthi

In the recent years, Babu Antony has been picked by many young filmmakers including Lokesh as well as Deeno Dennis to be part of their movies such as Vijay’s Leo and Mammootty’s Bazooka.

“It talks about the confidence they have in me to pull off these roles,” he says. “All these filmmakers grew up watching my movies; that’s the best part. They have seen me in Vyshali, Aparahnam, Chanta, Kadal, Grandmaster and even Idukki Gold – all of which had showcasing different performances. They don’t think twice about casting me in these roles now, and I am extremely happy about that. Even in Tamil, be it Lokesh, Vijay or Karthi (whom he had worked with in Ponniyin Selvan), they grew up watching my movies. They are all my fans; they told me this.”

The veteran star will next be seen in RDX, which has Shane Nigam, Neeraj Madhav and Antony Varghese as part of the cast. The movie will release on August 25.
