On what could be a sad day in the history of Telangana, legendary poet, playback singer, and revolutionist, Gaddar passed away in Hyderabad on August 6, 2023. The latest update is that the legendary folk singer breathed his last while undergoing treatment in the prestigious Appollo Hospitals in Hyderabad.
Going into details, Gaddar was admitted to the hospital due to issues with a heart ailment. He was 75 years old and passed away this afternoon. Going back in time, Gaddar was active in the Naxalite movement till 2010 and later joined the movement for Telangana's statehood.
Gaddar went underground in the 1980s and became a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) People's War. He was part of its cultural wing and performed in from of crowds. He has a bullet in his spine as a result of a failed assassination in 1997.
After being active in the Naxal movement till 2010, Gaddar later identified himself as an Ambedkarite. He adopted the name Gaddar as a tribute to the pre-independence Gadar party which opposed British colonial rule in Punjab during 1911.
Gaddar's real name is Gummadi Vittal Rao and he has sung in a few films as well. In 2011 Gaddar received Nandi Award for the song he crooned in the film Jai Bolo Telangana. The state of Telangana is in shock ever since the news has come out.
The word is that a special funeral has been planned and the state of Telangana will give Gaddar full state honors at his funeral. The film industry is conveying its condolences to Gaddar and his family during their time of grief. The details of the funeral will be revealed soon.
