The late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s debut film Appu was re-released in theatres on March 14, so, it is no surprise that there aren’t many new Kannada films headed to theatres this week. According to ticket aggregators, there is only one Kannada film listed as a March 21 theatrical release. On OTT, too, as of the start of the week, there is no indication of any new streaming release. But then, most Kannada films that get pay-per-view deals do not get publicity from the streamer.

For instance, late last week, the Kannada comedy Forest dropped on Prime Video, as did the action thriller Hiranya. Choo Mantar and UI are among the films that are expected in March, but there’s been no update as to when to expect them. As far as dubbed content goes, there are 2 interesting titles headed audiences’ way.

Here’s a look at the Kannada original and dubbed films headed to theatres and OTT in the week of March 17 to March 23

Barget Basya

Director Rish Hiremath takes on the lead role in his film, Barget Basya, that follows his character’s desperate attempts to find love. The film also stars Advika Smitha Hugar, Pooja Emmanuel, Punith Chandra, Raghuvarya MK, Sangeetha N Swamy, and Mahesh Kumar Adoni.

Officer on Duty

Kunchacko Boban leads director Jithu Ashraf’s Officer on Duty, which is based on a story by Shahi Kabir. Boban plays a recently-demoted police officer, whose investigation into a counterfeit jewellery racket has repercussions that put his life at risk. Joining Boban on the cast are Priya Mani, Vishak Nair, Jagadish, Vaishakh Shankar, Aadukalam Naren, and Ramzan Muhammed, among others. The Malayalam thriller will have a Kannada audio option.

Dragon

Love Today fame’s Pradeep Ranganathan’s hit Tamil coming-of-age comedy drama has him play a college dropout, who secures a high-paying job after faking his documents, only to realize that he must clear his backlog to ensure he does not get caught. Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar are paired opposite him. Director Ashwath Marimuthu’s film released in theatres on February 21, and will begin streaming before the 30-day mark, despite its good showing at the box office. The Tamil original film will stream with Kannada audio option as well.
