Last weekend was, what should have been the Toxic release week, but when Rocking Star Yash let go of the date and moved his film ahead by a year, several others, across languages, were quick to stake claim. Kannada had 3, as also Malayalam, with Tamil, Telugu and Hindi also having 1 each. The big winner at the box office came from Tamil with Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly, which is still going strong, and also why there will not be any release from that industry this week.

There are, however, a couple of Kannada original films vying for the share of the Easter weekend box office. The offerings are as different as chalk and cheese – one a hardcore courtroom drama, while the other is a mythological drama, told in Yakshagana format.

Here’s a look at the films – Kannada original and dubbed – hitting theatres and OTT in the week of April 14 to April 20

Veera Chandrahasa

Ravi Basrur, best known for his music work in films like Ugramm, Mufti, Anjaniputra, KGF and Salaar, has directed and produced a film that he’s been extremely tight-lipped about. Basrur has not even revealed a trailer of the film, which is supposedly told completely in the form of Yakshagana, with mainstream film artistes and traditional performers sharing screen space in the tale of King Chandrahasa, who was one of the Pandavas biggest allies as noted in the Mahabharata.

Yuddhakaanda Chapter 2

Krishna Ajai Rao, best known for romantic films like Krishnan Love Story, etc., is the lawyer defending a mother who shot to death the man who abused her little child in Yuddhakaanda Chapter 2, directed by Pavan Bhat. Should the mother be given the maximum punishment or is she a hapless victim of the system. That is what the film explores.
